Scoping Study
Circular Economy in Lumbini and Bagmati Provinces
The Roots of Circularity (RoC) scoping study is a preliminary assessment conducted to explore the concept and implementation of the circular economy (CE) within the Bagmati and Lumbini Provinces. This systematic approach aims to map out existing knowledge, identify gaps, and refine research questions and methodologies for future in-depth studies. Unlike studies that assess the quality of evidence or draw firm conclusions, this scoping study provides a broad overview of the current landscape of CE.
The study specifically targeted dialogues with private sector representatives to gauge the potential for circularity and identify industrial sectors that could benefit from CE interventions. The findings from this scoping study will inform the planning and design of subsequent phases of the RoC project, including the establishment of a local team and an incubator in Lumbini.

Case Study
Systemic shift towards circularity in the Armenian economy and society at large
From 2022 to 2025, Impact Hub Network, Impact Hub Yerevan, and the Environment and Health NGO led a transformative effort to advance the circular economy in Armenia. Funded by the European Union in Armenia, CirculUP! set out to empower civil society and entrepreneurs, raise national awareness, and promote systemic change toward sustainable, resource-efficient practices.
In partnership with the Armenian Circular Economy Coalition (ACEC) and over 20 civil society organisations, the initiative delivered targeted training to 60+ startups and 23 SMEs, supported selected businesses with funding to implement circular models, and engaged more than 1 million Armenians through multimedia campaigns. Localised toolkits, school programs, and community initiatives reinforced long-term capacity building and knowledge-sharing across sectors.
This case study explores CirculUP!’s multidimensional approach, strategic partnerships, and national impact—offering insights into how ecosystem actors can drive circularity in emerging economies through coordinated, inclusive action.
